New Sonic Animated Series Announced For 2014

Fans of Sonic the Hedgehog will be pleased to find out that Sega have announced a brand new animated series for the blue blur. I myself was a pretty big fan of Sonic’s past animated series starting with The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog back in the early 90′s. Additionally I was also very much into Sonic the Hedgehog (also known as Sonic SatAM) and to a lessor extent Sonic Underground.

The last time we saw a Sonic animated series was 2003′s Sonic X which I honestly hated with a passion and yes, Chris was the main reason. Never the less Sega is giving the whole Sonic animated series another shot with Sonic Boom (working title) which is set to debut in late 2014.

Sonic the Hedgehog™, the iconic video game character who has brought his trademark speed and attitude to four TV series and more than 70 video games, is returning to television in his first-ever CG animated series in the fall 2014. The action packed comedy series aimed at children 6-11 will debut first on Cartoon Network in the U.S. and on CANAL J and GULLI in France, with a global rollout to follow. The initial order of 52 eleven-minute episodes is co-produced by SEGA® of America Inc. and Genao Productions.

Sonic Boom is a character-driven comedy that leaves a trail of robot wreckage in its smoldering wake. The series centers on Sonic, his best friend and sidekick, Tails, their never-ending search for adventure, and their battles with Sonic’s arch-nemesis, Dr. Eggman. Rounding out the ensemble are fan favorites Knuckles and Amy Rose, plus a rogue’s gallery of enemies—some familiar to Sonic fans and some brand-new.

DAMN IT SEGA! HIS NAME IS DR ROBOTNIK!

Considering we won’t be seeing Sonic Boom (working title) until late 2014, don’t expect to hear any more announcements regarding this for a while to come. Personally I would of preferred something hand animated instead of CG but what can we do? Every studio wants to be the next Pixar these days.

Since you’re all here, let’s get nostalgic and take a look at the opening to Sonic SatAM. Still one of my favourite openings to an animated series ever and a reminder as to why the 90′s were THE BEST era to grow up in.
